After three successful years the Age Allies Programme is now coming to an end – we’d love you to come and celebrate the project’s achievements with us!
“Age Allies: Reflections for the Future” is a one-off event to celebrate the work and share the key learning points from the Age Allies programme.
We will also be thanking all the volunteers who supported it and looking ahead to see how the learning from the project can be incorporated into future age-friendly projects
The Age Allies prgoramme has been working with organisations across the Capital to facilitate positive change in attitudes to age and ageing. We have some important findings to discuss around how businesses and organisations across London can become more age-friendly.

Do you work with asylum seekers or refugees who may be lonely living in London?
We offer a befriending service to adult refugees who are socially isolated, spend too much time alone and don’t have enough to do.
We connect them to our volunteer befrienders – all screened and checked Londoners with a passion for the city and goodwill towards refugees.
The idea is a ‘friend’ who can help them participate and experience a more positive side of the city.
They commit to meet once or twice a fortnight over 3 months but many (80%) become firm friends.
Our criteria is: 18+, asylum seeker or refugee, lonely, speak reasonable English, stable (mental health/housing), social and curious, keen to practice their English and experience more of London. They must also live within the M25 as HostNation only operates in Greater London.
If you know someone who fits this please tell them about us. This takes about 10 minutes with a secure connection to fill out the web referral questionnaire and consent to us holding personal data which ideally needs to be done together with the personal being referred, so they fully understand what is being offered and can tell us a bit about themselves and their interests.

Refugees Into Jobs team at Refugee Council have a new Starbucks Employability and Customer Service programme starting in just over two weeks’ time, in case you know any individuals who may be interested in participating.
Our next course is starting on the 8th August at Barnsbury Job Centre Plus in Angel and is running for four days (8th, 9th, 15th and 16th).
For individuals with refugee status, family reunion, humanitarian protection or discretionary leave to remain as a result of asylum, who have an interest in customer service, wish to improve their employability skills and are looking for full or part-time work in a barista role at Starbucks or alternative role, it may be a great opportunity.
Interested participants are invited to drop in at our OPEN DAY Tuesday 30th July, 10am – 3pm at Barnsbury Jobcentre Plus (1 Barnsbury Road, London N1 0EX) to meet us and register for the programme – see full info attached:

St John Ambulance is aiming to increase resilience amongst older people in their local areas.
The goal is to offer vital skills to help people feel more confident in coping in emergency situations whilst ultimately, saving lives.
They have been running first aid sessions all over London, Birmingham and the East of England. In their next phase, they are now looking at offering their Advocate role specifically to over 50s and looking for individuals who would be able to take up this offer.
The Advocate role for over 50s: Unlike the usual volunteering offer at St John Ambulance, which has historically been more regimented, they are offering a flexible volunteer role with no minimum number of hours per month.
The only requirement is that individuals go out and share the knowledge about first aid in the form of community get-togethers and delivering First Aid Skills sessions to community groups in marginalised areas to increase confidence and knowledge of first aid to help each other when needed.
In return, St John Ambulance offer a free four hour certified First Aid Course, uniform & online Safeguarding training.

The advocate role works really well for those in close knit communities / work places as well who can act as focal points for first aid knowledge in their area.
