London Community Response is a collection of funders in London working collaboratively to provide grants for organisations that are responding to the needs of communities in London affected by the pandemic. A fourth wave of funding has been announced with grants of up to £10,000 available. This round of funding is called the Navigating Crisis grant and it gives priority to the following:

• Organisations led by and for marginalised communities
• Groups who have a strong reach to people at high risk of negative impacts from Covid-19
• Smaller organisations with a turnover of up to £1 million a year

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thursday 3 December 2020. Further information, including a list of activities the grant hopes to fund, can be found here.

Help from Parkinson’s UK

Parkinson’s UK  run a free confidential Parkinson’s UK information advice service both in Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea for people with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and carers.

They provide tailored information and support about all things Parkinson’s, whether it be benefits, housing, driving, navigating the health and social care system and much more.  They also have specialist advisers who can support them with care and employment issues. They are great listeners and offer emotional support and in depth case work where needed.

In line with Government guidelines they have been unable to offer home visits but have successfully adapted their approach and have been  providing much needed support by telephone, by video calls and by e-mail – ensuring  those who need them most are still able to get the support they need.

For further information please contact 0808 800 0303 or email hello@parkinsons.org.uk

Holistic Service to Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Hammersmith and Fulham Law Centre have an exciting new project to assist women experiencing domestic abuse. Our dedicated Women’s Crisis Navigator will provide a holistic service to women experiencing domestic abuse, enabling them to get early advice to prevent them from experiencing any further harm.

The Law Centre has expertise in housing, homelessness, welfare benefits and immigration but we will also assist women to access advice on family matters, including injunctions and related support services.

We are working on creating partnerships with local organisations based around a referral system. We hope that by working together, more women in crisis will receive the support and legal advice that they require. The referrals made by our partners will act as a key component of accessing justice for the client.

I enclose details of the service that you can display in your organisation and share with other staff members.

Please do get in touch if you would want more details or if you would like to speak about the project.

Youth Council Survey

What is Make Your Mark?
Make Your Mark is the largest consultation of young people in the UK. It’s aim is to identify the top concerns of our young people to:

  1. Inform the UK Youth Parliament national manifesto campaign, which in recent years has included campaigns on mental health and improvements of mental health services, as well as Sex and Relationship Education and a Curriculum for Life.
  2. To inform the Hammersmith and Fulham’s Youth Council manifesto and extended engagement and consultation with young people in the borough, on the issues that matter most to them.
  3. Help schools and youth projects to identify the top issues of concern for their students/young people, to inform projects, initiatives etc.

The Vote
There are 2 votes on the ballot paper this year (1 vote on UK/Devolved topics and 1 on Local topics). Young people literally choose 1 of 10 options for the both votes, it’s as simple as that!

Usually we have paper (and exceed 4000 votes), but, given the current situation, we wanted to offer as many flexible options as possible for you to support the young people you know and work with to vote on the issues that matter most to them! So do use whatever option/or range of options that will work best for you at this time!

Options and Resources for Voting
Make Your Mark explainer video including the topics. This has been added to a youtube playlist, along with a BSL interpreted video and subtitled versions of the ten videos which are presented by the young people who suggested each topic: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT6IPYyVXYWa5Y1et9_WhFtVOxl8iN3uB

A tally sheet to capture votes – Click here. If there are any opportunities to show the video in assemblies, form or other sessions then this is the easiest option. Young people can watch the video and hand vote for their issues. Votes can be collated on the tally sheet. Please send completed tally sheets to Brenda.Whinnett@lbhf.gov.uk by 27th November 2020. Happy to accept a photo or whatever works for you!

Online voting- young people can vote individually online- if you are not seeing young people/students in person. Are there any options for this to be sent out to them? Online voting runs until 1st December. Here is the link: https://www.ukparliamentweek.org/en/make-your-mark

CGL – Alcohol Awareness Week Festival

Join Change Grow Live – Connecting London to mark this year’s Alcohol Awareness Week which runs from Monday 16-22 November on the theme of ‘Alcohol and mental health’. The campaign provides an ideal opportunity to highlight the link between alcohol and mental health and how by making changes to our drinking behaviour we can reduce our risk of developing or worsening mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

Connecting London is a partnership of Change Grow Live services across the London area. During Alcohol Awareness Week, we’ll be hosting events and activities on Zoom and sharing resources. For more information and to access the full timetable, click here.

We will kick start the week with an online event via Zoom on Monday 16th Of November at 11am. The event will be focused around a Q&A session with our very own Dr Julie Scheiner (Chartered Psychologist) who will be answering questions on the effect of alcohol on mental health. If you would like to send in a question for Dr Julie beforehand please email to thealcoholservice.info@cgl.org.uk
