I am writing on behalf of Hammersmith & Fulham Council to enquire about the possibility of offering free or heavily discounted access or memberships to all, or a set number of, our looked after children and registered care leavers (up to the age of 25).
Looked after children and care leavers face numerous unique challenges as a result of being care experienced and as such Hammersmith & Fulham Council Local Authority has recently passed a motion recognising ‘care experience’ as a protected characteristic. Many of our care experienced young people have limited financial resources and may struggle to access sports, creative and other leisure opportunities in the same way as other young people.
As a Council, we are keen to work with local organisations to improve our offer to the young people in and leaving our care. By offering free or heavily discounted access or memberships to your organisation/facility, you will have the opportunity to reach a new customer base, demonstrate your commitment to social responsibility and investment in the local community, and allow these groups to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
We would be grateful if you could consider how your organisation could offer accessible leisure opportunities to looked after children and council registered care leavers. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact Sophie.Veitch@lbhf.gov.uk
