Kensington Central Library holds a large collection of books on the subject of Folklore and Customs. To highlight this great resource, each February we put on a series of events under the banner of Fantasy February. Come along! Kensington Central Library

Starfish is a charity that helps children and young people left orphaned or vulnerable by HIV and AIDS in South Africa by raising funds to provide vital healthcare and education to the children Starfish cares for. We’re happy to announce that our annual Spinathon is taking place very soon!

When? Saturday 29th February

Where? Slice Studios (SW6 4TJ)

The fantastic Pedal Studio instructors have some exciting classes lined up and there will be pumping tunes and free flowing food and drink to keep energy levels high! There will also be prizes given out!

Spinners can create their own team (up to 8 members) or join Team Starfish!

It will be a great way to get fit, have fun and raise vital funds for vulnerable children in South Africa.

This event has been developed by the Young People’s Foundations with Partnership for Young London and is targeted at organisations who have received or applied for the Mayors Young Londoners Fund. This will be an interactive session for organisations and young people to explore and share work happening across Boroughs in London supported by the John Lyons Charity.

Media Trust is thrilled to announce the launch of our fourth annual Women’s Voices event in celebration of International Women’s Day.

WGN has been commissioned by Angelou to provide FREE training on Hidden Scars: Understanding the Impact and Trauma of Harmful Practices training to VAWG practitioners in Tri-Borough.

Women and Girls Network is a free, women-only service that supports women in London who have experienced violence, or are at risk of violence. We offer counselling, advocacy and advice for women and girls who have experienced gendered violence, including sexual and domestic violence. Our overall aim is to promote, preserve and restore the mental health and well-being of women and girls, to empower them to make a total and sustainable recovery from their experiences of violence

Name: Hidden Scars: Understanding the Impact and Trauma of Harmful Practices training

Who is this training for: These courses have been developed for front-line female staff, working directly with Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) working within London organisations. Please note that due to funding requirements, this free course is only available to female professionals providing VAWG services in Tri-Borough, London.

This course aims to introduce participants to the different types of Harmful Practices, and the psychological impact of trauma caused by these experiences.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this  training course participants will have:

  • Increased awareness and understanding of the range of harmful practices including; FGM, Forced Marriage, Faith Based Abuse ‘Honour’ Crimes
  • Increased awareness and understanding of the global and traumatic impact of Harmful Practices on clients psychological and emotional well being
  • Explored the neurobiological processes of trauma on the brain
  • Increased awareness and understanding of relevant clinical conceptualizations. Including Developmental trauma, PTSD and CTSD
  • Identified the impact of the work on practitioners and the development of self-care strategies.
