Free Webinar: Ageing & Ageism in the Commonwealth

Weds 30 September 2020, 15:00pm to 16:30

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on the rights and needs of older persons. While everyone has been affected, evidence shows that older people are among those most at risk of complications from the disease, with fatality rates for those over 80 years of age five times the global average. They are also at greater risk of poverty, discrimination and isolation. Older persons have been hit particularly hard by the virus itself but it has been the failure to protect their rights in the response that has led to unnecessary deaths, unmet health and care needs, increased isolation, discrimination and stigma.

This webinar will:

  • Recognise the impact of COVID-19 on the wellbeing and dignity of older persons across the Commonwealth
  • Raise awareness of ageism, stigma and discrimination against older people in the COVID-19 response and the need to foster intergenerational connections across the Commonwealth
  • Reflect on how The Commonwealth needs to adapt to ensure the rights of its citizens of all ages are respected

Masbro Elders Autumn Tea Club Programme Online

For our online Autumn programme, please click here. Please do contact me via tina@upg.org.uk for your personal zoom invitation if you intend to join us and if you need any help getting onto zoom – please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance.

Unfortunately, further to the recent ‘Rule of 6’ government restrictions on numbers allowed to attend social gatherings, we are suspending our original plans to restart in-person Elders Tea Club meetings at the Masbro in October and will re-evaluate how we proceed following further clarification of the government guidelines, paying particular care to the guidance for older people. So please watch this space and we hope to have further in-person news shortly!

Hammersmith & Fulham GP Federation Shortlisted for the Nursing Time Awards 2020

Following their success in  winning  the Jo’s Trust Award in 2019/20, The Cervical Screening Project Team is being recognised yet again !

The team was shortlisted for the 2020 Nursing Time Awards in the Cancer Nursing category .

Project background:

H&F GP Federation was approached by the RM Partners (the Cancer Alliance across North West and South West London) to establish a dedicated Cervical Cancer Programme. The programme started in 2018 continuing to raise awareness as well as improve uptake for all women aged between 25 – 64, with the long-term goal of reducing the incidence of cervical cancer related deaths in Hammersmith and Fulham.

The programme targeted practices with low recorded uptake and worked with Sobus, (voluntary sector organisation representing the majority voluntary organisations in Hammersmith and Fulham) to help reach out too and engage the hard to reach groups. For more information click here
