Here are some useful ways to keep you and your property safe on the street, which feels particularly relevant given the recent spate of knife crime in the borough.
You are less likely to be targeted if you look confident. Move with purpose and try to be aware of your surroundings.
Plan your route and think about what to take with you, especially if you’re going somewhere you haven’t been before. Keep to busy, well-lit streets, walkways and paths which are more likely to be covered by CCTV. Only take licensed taxis or minicabs booked by phone or a mobile phone app.
Keep your mobile phone and valuables out of sight. If you’re using your phone it’s more likely to be snatched from your hand as you’re not paying attention to your surroundings, so look around you.
And never leave a mobile, any other device, wallet or purse on the table of an outdoor café, pub or restaurant. Same goes for any jewellery you might be wearing – keep it covered when walking down the street.
Finally – and this is so important to remember – if you’re threatened with violence, don’t risk your personal safety. Property can be replaced, you can’t. See our page of advice on responding to violent situations.

H&F’s first ever Youth Achievement awards produced a night to remember, celebrating the most impressive young achievers and talented young people from the borough.
Nominations flooded in from peers, teachers, youth and social workers, ahead of the awards evening.
A judging panel picked out the most deserving winners from a list of young people aged 11-25 who live, work or go to school in the borough – for achievements over the last two years.
“These young people are the heart and soul of our borough. Their talents and achievements are a key part of what makes H&F a great place to live, work and study,” said, Cllr Larry Culhane, H&F Cabinet Member for Children and Education.
The awards were organised with the support of the H&F Youth Council, and the Young H&F Foundation, with well over 100 nominations received from the public. The judging panel included people from local voluntary organisations, public services and businesses. Each category was sponsored by a company with a presence in the borough.

We are shocked and saddened at the tragic fatal stabbing in West Kensington last week of Ayub Hassan, a 17 year old local resident. Ayub’s friends, family and community are understandably reeling from this horrific incident. The police are reaching out to local communities to ask what support is needed, and they are obviously the first point of contact if you have any information that might assist their enquiries, but Sobus would also be glad to provide whatever support we can to help you and the communities you work with, through this very difficult time.
Knife crime and gang culture is clearly a huge issue affecting communities up and down the country, with last week’s horrific news planting this issue very firmly on our doorstep. While lots of organisations are working incredibly hard to tackle the problem, clearly more needs to be done on both a national, regional and local level and it is likely that in the coming weeks and months, we will come together to explore how we, as individuals, organisations and a community, can work together on this.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to this young man’s family, friends and community. It is hard to imagine the devastation and grief that they must now endure.

The purpose of the drop in is to give local people the opportunity to share how they think the CCG’s proposed financial recovery plans will affect different groups, particularly in consideration of the following: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex, sexual orientation, people who are homeless, rough sleepers, vulnerable migrants, sex workers, gypsies or travellers, carers, different socio-economic groups and other multiply excluded people.
