Grants for Remembrance Day Installations

Applications are now open for micro-grants of up to £500 for installations to support their Remembrance Day activities for the centenary of the First World War.

This programme will allow communities to remember and commemorate by accessing our silhouettes for benches and chairs free of charge thanks to the support of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

These silhouettes can be placed within community halls, places of worship and places of education, bringing to mind those who went to war and did not return. You can apply for an award to purchase up to 10 silhouettes.

As part of the award, your organisation will need to hold a self-funded event to bring your local community together.

Applications are open until the 1st October 2018.

Who can apply for an award?

Your organisation cannot be a for profit/commercial organisation, but aside from that, pretty much anyone can apply, including:

  • A charity
  • A Community Interest Company (CIC)
  • A school
  • A place of worship
  • An Armed Forces base
  • A community organisation with a constitution and a community space (Including councils)

DIY store B&Q operates a community re-use scheme through all its branches across the UK. The scheme donates unsellable products and materials for re-use by local schools, other educational institutions and community groups, for the benefit of the local community and the environment.

All items are donated on the understanding that they will be re-used or disposed of responsibly if they aren’t used. Eligible groups include: Schools and colleges; Child minders, playgroups and nurseries; Allotment associations, community gardening projects; Youth groups including scouts, guides and cadets; Registered charities; Hospices; Conservation groups including The Conservation Volunteers and Forest Schools; Community projects organised by local churches and other religious groups; Women’s Institute, Lions Clubs, Rotary, Townswomen Guilds; Royal British Legion; Adult education projects, University of the Third Age and other local community groups.

B&Q also works with Community Repaint, a network of schemes that collects any surplus, re-usable paint and redistributes it within their communities to individuals and families on low income, charities and community groups.

As many of you will know, our two sites, Dawes Road Hub and Freston Road Hub offer fantastic workspace and meeting rooms, providing flexible, accessible and affordable space, ideal for start ups and growing businesses, with free wifi, unlimited tea and coffee (and the occasional cake!) and a friendly and welcoming reception service – all included in our rates.   Both Dawes Road and Freston Road Hubs offer great space for all kinds of businesses and are both well served by public transport.  Sobus hub members can use space at either or both of the sites, offering you the flexibility to work from different locations as and when you need to.

Hot desks are available from £15 and permanent desks can be rented from £260 + VAT a month.  We also offer a mailbox service for £14 + VAT per month.    We’re really keen to make sure the hubs offer something special for residents, and so have lots of special offers and discounted rates for local people.   At the Dawes Road Hub, special rates are available to local 3rd sector organisations and at Freston Road Hub, special offers are available to local residents from the area, including reduced desk hire and room booking rates.  Business support will also be available through Freston Road for those looking for help and advice to develop and grow their businesses.
