Please see the flyer for the second Building Trust listening session I am facilitating in conjunction with AFND ( www.afnd.org.uk ) on Friday September 8th 2023.

Here’s an overview of what the Building Trust Project is about:

Beginning with black residents, local people will tell their stories face-to-face to those in the NHS and council who plan and provide our local health and care services – people in positions of authority who have the power to change things for the better.

The aim is for these sessions, which are being led by the borough’s voluntary and community sector, to create a shared understanding of how difficult issues like structural racism and poverty affect residents’ experiences of health and care services and the outcomes they get.

Re as young people with disabilities/SEN are supported up to age 25, we will accept young people up to 25 years old for this listening event. Ideally we want as many young people who live and/or access NHS services within Hammersmith & Fulham. However we can accept some young people from neighbouring boroughs. Please do not hesitate to get back to me or Harold (AFND) aka H 07552140965 if you have any questions.

Whilst it’s not on the flyer there will be Westfield vouchers for every young person who attends.

Any weekday between 9am and 1pm:

  • Book a hot desk for £5 an hour (+VAT)
  • Book a meeting room at 20% discount

I am writing on behalf of Hammersmith & Fulham Council to enquire about the possibility of offering free or heavily discounted access or memberships to all, or a set number of, our looked after children and registered care leavers (up to the age of 25).

Looked after children and care leavers face numerous unique challenges as a result of being care experienced and as such Hammersmith & Fulham Council Local Authority has recently passed a motion recognising ‘care experience’ as a protected characteristic. Many of our care experienced young people have limited financial resources and may struggle to access sports, creative and other leisure opportunities in the same way as other young people.

As a Council, we are keen to work with local organisations to improve our offer to the young people in and leaving our care. By offering free or heavily discounted access or memberships to your organisation/facility, you will have the opportunity to reach a new customer base, demonstrate your commitment to social responsibility and investment in the local community, and allow these groups to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

We would be grateful if you could consider how your organisation could offer accessible leisure opportunities to looked after children and council registered care leavers. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact Sophie.Veitch@lbhf.gov.uk

To build on the momentum of our ‘Ready Steady Connect’ mentoring Programme, we’re seeking employers who can host a group mentoring session at their workplaces. These sessions will provide valuable exposure for up to 30 students aged 15-18, offering insights into different careers in your industry and entry routes available, such as apprenticeships.

What is Ready Steady Connect? It is part of the Mayor of London’s ‘New Deal for Young People’ initiative, Ready, Steady, CONNECT! is a new and exciting mentoring and personal development programme in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. This programme will be delivered by Spark! and in partnership with 2-3 Degrees and Young Hammersmith & Fulham.

Companies like Accenture, GSK, Chelsea Football Club, and Met Police are already confirmed hosts, and we’re hopeful to attract interest from the hospitality and engineering sectors as well, but not necessarily! If you’re interested in contributing to this transformative initiative, we would love to hear from you.
