Schools, colleges and community groups in England can apply for grants to support the education and development of children and young people through educational, cultural, sporting and other projects. Projects that will help enhance the self-confidence, teamwork skills and future employability of children and young people are of particular interest. In most cases, grants are made on a relatively small scale. Many grants will be under £2,000, most will be under £5,000, and in only a few cases will grants exceed £10,000. The funding provided by the BlueSpark Foundation can be for physical assets (such as iPads, sports equipment, or lighting for stage productions) for services or facilities (such as sports coaching or music or drama tuition) or simply for the provision of experiences (such as theatre visits). These examples are intended to be illustrative and not restrictive regarding the funding BlueSpark may provide to support projects. Applications can be submitted anytime and must be made online using BlueSpark Foundation’s standard application form. My name is Claudia, and I am a Research Officer at the Self-Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) at Imperial College London. I’m reaching out to invite your support to help us recruit participants to the FOCUS Research Study which is being led by our research unit. Our ethically approved FOCUS study is exploring how people living with osteoarthritis manage their symptoms using lifestyle medicine approaches (with a focus on using anti-inflammatory diet to support self-management of OA symptoms). I am emailing you as perhaps some of the people who reach out to you may suffer with this condition and so may be interested in being a part of research.

The ethically approved research study has the potential to shape how we understand and support the use of food-as-medicine in OA management. By helping us connect with individuals living with OA, we believe your organisation can play a key role in advancing scientific knowledge & ultimately improving the quality of life for millions affected by this condition.

We’re looking to identify up to 20 individuals with OA to participate in personal interviews (30–45 minutes, via Zoom or Teams) and be scheduled at the participant’s convenience. All responses will be kept confidential, and each conversation will provide valuable insights to guide future health strategies and support systems.

Please reach out to me via email claudia.hobbs@ic.ac.uk or on 0207 574 7604 if you’d like to be interviewed.

The Role

We are currently recruiting a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to work with OETC’s Artistic Director and CEO to help shape and lead the company through our exciting next stage of development and growth. Outside Edge Theatre Company is a small, fast-paced charity offering Trustees the opportunity to directly affect the organisation’s outcomes and see first-hand the impact of their efforts.

About Outside Edge

Outside Edge Theatre Company, which is the UK’s only theatre company and participatory arts charity focused on addiction, is recruiting our next Chair of the Board of Trustees.

For the past 25 years, we have created theatre productions about issues related to addiction and offered free drama activities to help people at-risk and affected by addiction to live healthier lives. Over the last year we supported 837 people, and they attended 504 creative activity sessions a total of 5,408 times.

Our inclusive weekly arts activities encourage service users and audiences to develop healthy habits, discover new talents and reclaim centre stage in their own lives. We provide participants with pastoral care and wraparound support, opportunities for volunteering and paid employment, and a person-centred approach to help people identify and achieve outcomes for themselves. This year, we are delivering over 400 service sessions across our regular weekly drop-in groups, masterclasses, theatre clubs and taster sessions.

In addition to our work with people in recovery, Outside Edge is a producing theatre company that makes work about issues related to addiction. This unique subject matter ranges from problematic gambling to the social and political determinants leading to drug and alcohol abuse. Since 1999 we have produced more than 60 critically acclaimed productions that have toured across London, the rest of the UK and been presented in partnership with off-West End venues.
