Grants of between £3,000 and £50,000 are available to individuals and teams to help fund the sharing of stories that can drive positive social change. The fund is available through the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s 2024 Story Tellers Fund. The grants aim to support the dissemination and distribution of already-developed content across various media, such as books, films, social media, plays, and exhibitions.

This could include:

  • Documentary films exploring social issues
  • Podcasts featuring personal narratives of overcoming poverty
  • Photo essays highlighting community resilience
  • Interactive digital stories about housing inequality

Eligible applicants must be based in the UK, and their projects must be ready for distribution with a clear plan and understanding of the target audience. The fund does not support creating new content, research, or development work.

Interested applicants can apply through a form available on the JRF website, and those needing accessible versions can request them via email. More information, including the full eligibility criteria and application details, can be found on the JRF website.

The closing date for applications is 5 p.m. on the 31st October 2024. Decisions will be made by December 2024, with funding distributed in January 2025.

Carers Rights Day 2024 will take place in Ealing on Thursday 21 November 2024. The event is for the boroughs unpaid carers supporting family members and the theme this year is “recognising Your Rights.”

Carers Rights Day is an annual event in the UK that raises awareness of the challenges and rights of unpaid family carers. The day aims to help carers understand their rights and access the support they are entitled to.

There will be a range of local voluntary and staturory services stalls sharing information and advice about their services. The NHS will be providing blood pressure checks and providing valuable advice about health and healthy living.

The event takes place at 10am – 3pm on 21 November 2024. It takes place at Elm Lodge, in Greenford, Ealing.

NHS North West London, supported by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, ran a consultation from October 2023 to February 2024, on the future of acute mental health services in Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea following the temporary closure of the inpatient wards at the Gordon Hospital. There was significant engagement in the consultation with over 700 individual responses.

The responses from the consultation period helped identify a number of areas where further work was needed that would help continue to develop the case and proposed model of care to ensure it is meeting the needs of the local population. This work has all informed the Decision Making Business Case (DMBC) which will be presented to NHS North West London Board for a final decision.

To ensure all information has been sufficiently considered there has been a decision that the DMBC will be taken to NHS North West London Board on Wednesday 22 January 2025 where a final decision will be made. This is a public meeting and interested parties are invited to watch the meeting to see the discussion, a link will be available here closer to the time.

We also anticipate at least two more public meetings of the North West London Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee to discuss the case before any changes are implemented. One will discuss the DMBC before it goes to NHS North West London for decision and the second will review the decision made at the meeting in January 2025. These meetings are both open to the public and more information about dates and how to join can be found here.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this engagement process and for your patience while a fully considered decision is reached to best meet the needs of the local community.

NFP’s upcoming fundraising training dates, costing £95 are listed below.

We are a charity theatre company who specialise in using theatre as a form of therapy and have been working within the elderly community for over 20 years. We see firsthand the truth of the Arts Council statement, “Getting involved in creative activities in communities reduces loneliness, supports physical and mental health and wellbeing, sustains older people and helps to build and strengthen social ties.” Sharing in watching a show with music, comedy and drama is a perfect way for the elderly (especially those suffering with dementia) to reconnect and bring some much needed joy back into their lives. “A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around”.

So far, the company has produced and toured 50 highly successful shows to over 1000 different venues. We pride ourselves in writing and producing our own original material. All our productions are interactive and aim to encourage audiences to join in as much as possible so as to create a memorable experience. We believe this to be why venues invite us back time and time again.  Some of our regular clients include Chelsea Pensioners, Age UK, BUPA, Care UK, Sunrise and Senior Living, National Trust, Hallmark Care Homes, Rose Theatre, 10 different London councils and various NHS groups.

Resolve Evolve is a training company specialising in equality, diversity, equity, and inclusion. We have developed a programme of new courses to specifically support managers and staff in the sector. The founder, Donna Carty, and many of the trainers began their work in the sector. Some examples:

Online courses:

  • Dignity at Work (including the Employers’ New Duty on Sexual Harassment): 13th November 2024
  • Unconscious Bias: 3rd December 2024
  • EDEI: an introduction:  14th January 2025

In-person course:

  • Managing Effectively:  22nd Jan 2025
  • Inclusive Leadership: 28th January 2025

These open sessions are low-cost, high-quality, engaging and interactive. They have been developed to be excellent support for staff, ensuring the practical knowledge and skills needed to work well together and with the diverse groups and individuals who use sector services. The training for managers is also practical, recognising the need for support but often a lack of resources to provide it.

The courses are at a reduced rate for smaller organisations. The training is online with a ‘live’ trainer or in-person for managers (often with actors) to ensure group work and meaningful networking. All sessions are practical, interactive and engaging, enabling participants to discuss issues and reflect on key elements.
