H&F Civic Honours 2019 – don’t forget to nominate your local hero!

There are just three weeks until nominations close for the H&F Civic Honours 2019.

 

Nominations have been coming in from across the borough, so make sure your local hero doesn’t miss out on the chance to be recognised for the great things they do.

We are looking for nominations in 10 different categories:

  • Most dedicated volunteer
  • Acts of courage
  • Bringing people together
  • Acts of compassion
  • Contributions to art, culture and heritage
  • Sporting achievements
  • Community organiser
  • Improving our environment
  • Contributions to health and wellbeing
  • Lifetime achievement.

 

You can nominate anyone who lives, works, studies or volunteers in H&F, or a local community organisation.

Your nominations will go forward to a judging panel and the finalists in each category will be invited to a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Town Hall in King Street on Wednesday 12 June.

Interactive breakfast seminars which provide a unique forum for open debate and an opportunity to connect with your peers.

Said Dajani, head of digital at Diabetes UK will open the event discussing the power of personalisation when investing in new technology and share some of the struggles and successes involved in the process.

Tori Ellaway, service design programme manager at CAST and Julie Bishop, director at the Law Centres Network will unpick the process behind developing a new product, discussing how clearly defining the problem and going through an iterative process that responds to service users’ real needs and behaviours is the key to successful technology design and implementation.

Nathan Baranowski, managing director at ojo solutions will explore some examples of charities applying new technologies and the wider scope for our sector.

Hammersmith and Fulham Diabetes Education & Support Group

The Group is affiliated to Diabetes UK and sponsored by Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust. It comprises Type 1s and Type 2s, both newly diagnosed and those with many years of experience, together with partners, other family members, friends and carers. Membership is drawn from Fulham, Hammersmith and the surrounding areas.

The purpose of the Group is both educational and to provide a place where you can meet other people with diabetes and share experiences. The Group meets 8 times a year. The 2019 programme is set out on the next page. There is an informal talk on a specialist subject from a wide and exciting panel of speakers with lively questions and discussion.

Breaking Barriers | Volunteers in Hammersmith

Breaking Barriers is a small organisation which supports refugees into employment and education. At the end of March, we are launching a new Delivery Centre in Hammersmith, and we are looking to recruit volunteers to provide 1:1 advice and guidance to our refugee clients in this centre. Ideal candidates for volunteers are local people who have experience working in London, and are able to share this knowledge with refugees from a range of countries. The commitment is a couple of hours each week or fortnight.

Bright Ideas Fund now open!

The Bright Ideas Fund supports new community business ideas through the start-up and planning stages with tailored business support, to the implementation stage with grants of up to £15,000.

The Bright Ideas Fund is funded by Power to Change, the independent trust supporting community businesses in England, and delivered by Locality, the national network for community organisations, in partnership with Co-operatives UK, the Plunkett Foundation and Groundwork UK.

The Bright Ideas Fund application is now open and will close on Tuesday 9 April 2019.
