The Work and Health Unit (WHU), which is jointly managed by the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care, is using a £4.2m Challenge Fund to test new approaches that can help people experiencing mental health and/or musculoskeletal (MSK) issues stay in work.

They are looking to fund around twenty Initiatives which will improve their understanding of what works in one or more of the following areas:

  • Helping people stay in work by increasing their ability to self-manage their conditions.
  • Helping people access advice and support about what sort of work they might be capable of doing given their wider needs and circumstances.
  • Developing new approaches to help employers and individuals develop workplace solutions, or ways of working that facilitate greater participation of people experiencing these conditions.
  • Improving systems by joining up services to strengthen communication, liaison or joint action.

We welcome applications from employers, charities, social enterprises, local authorities, health bodies and others from across England, Scotland and Wales.

The deadline for receipt of Challenge Fund applications is Friday 17th August at 17.00. Projects are anticipated to run between October 2018 and February 2020.

The Mayor of London is committed to supporting European Londoners in the light of the UK leaving the EU.  As part of this work, we will be supporting civil society to engage with European Londoners about the Government’s proposed Settlement Scheme and reach out to those groups most at risk of marginalisation. We have now launched our pilot micro grant scheme to support this important work.

City Hall will provide micro-grant funding of up to £2,000 to community groups and small civil society organisations with demonstrable expertise and reach to deliver outreach activity on the settled status scheme, providing information and advice to vulnerable European Londoners.

You can find the link to read more and to apply here –  https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/business-and-economy/apply-european-londoners-outreach-funding

The deadline is 20th August 2018 5pm. If you have any questions about this microgrant scheme feel free to get in touch with me at Bella.Kosmala@london.gov.uk or Hannah Boylan Hannah.Boylan@london.gov.uk

The aim of the Integrated Communities Innovation Fund is to support a range of projects, both in size and in scale, that are bold and innovative in approach and that encourage integration in a wide range of contexts. Of particular interest are projects that can, in time, be scaled up to reach a minimum of 300. Overall, projects supported will:

  • Be innovative in the way they tackle integration challenges
  • Explain how they will achieve positive integration and offer evidence to support this
  • Clearly understand how outcomes will be measured and evaluated
  • Demonstrate how partners and the local community will buy-in to the proposed activity
  • Show potential for growth both in numbers of participants and effectiveness
  • Demonstrate clear deliverability, value for money and financial stability
  • Be led by organisations willing to share their experiences honestly and wisely.

The Fund is open to applications from legally constituted organisations or those with statutory powers working with beneficiaries in England.

There are no minimum or maximum grant levels set and funding is only available for 2018/19 and 2019/20. Further terms and conditions are set out in the Fund Prospectus

Submit an expression of interest as Stage One of Two by 23:45 on Monday 20th August.

Do you remember Operation Cup of Tea, responding to the London Riots in 2012?

In just one day, volunteers, local charities and community groups served over 1000 cups of tea to local residents and visitors whilst providing a positive space for people to drop by and for the community to come together.

In the summer of 2017 following the Grenfell Tower Fire, Operation Cup of Tea created a regular hub in Tavistock Square to provide a friendly face, local information and a heart-warming cuppa to anyone who’d like it.

We are relaunching Operation Cup of Tea starting from Friday 20th July 2018 at Tavistock Square.

The stall will provide local residents the opportunity to drop by, enjoy a free cup of tea and act as an informal space for people to talk. Information regarding local services and summer activities for families will also be on hand for organisations to distribute on the day.

Operation Cup of Tea Info

Want to get involved? Organisations and groups are invited to participate in Operation Cup of Tea, to share information with the local community on what support is on offer. We will be in Tavistock Square every Friday 10am-3pm until the end of September.

We would love to host your project! Come along to share your work with the public. To book a space contact Nadia at nadia.nail@vckc.org.uk by Wednesday 24th July 2018.
