The term challenging behaviour describes a range of behaviours that can put the person displaying the behaviour or those around them at risk.

Behaviour that challenges is a way to communicate unmet needs when an individual struggles to communicate their needs in other ways often due to factors such as anxiety, neglect, abuse, learning disabilities and conditions like dementia.

Behaviours that challenge include but are not limited to; physical, verbal, and non-verbal.

All behaviour is a form of communication and there is a reason for all behaviour.

Would you like to increase your awareness and understanding of behaviour that challenges and its effects?

By completing our free online training, you will develop in-depth knowledge that could support progression onto other appropriate qualifications and relevant employment.

Start

The Lyric Hammersmith is a theatre with a national reputation for delivering life-changing programmes for young people. Our flagship programme for 16 to 25 year olds is START, an accredited six week training course for NEET (not in education, employment or training) young people with the aim of re-engaging them in education, employment or training. Throughout the six weeks 10 young people will broaden their perspectives by developing a range of characters and scenarios and rehearsing alternative behaviours in a safe environment. With two professional directors they explore issues which are relevant to their own lives and foster a group ethic of inclusivity, accessibility, encouragement, respect and affirmation whilst creating their own original piece of theatre which they will perform at the end of the course. For many this alternative form of engaging with skills development and the responsibilities of team work is the first time they have been willing to learn. This project is underpinned by an Arts Award accreditation.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to contact me on 020 8741 6822 ext 434 or email participation@lyric.co.uk
