Applications are now open for Walking and Cycling Grants London.

Walking and Cycling Grants London is a grants programme funded by Transport for London and administered by Groundwork London.

The programme is aimed at groups that are traditionally under-represented in walking and cycling (e.g through income, health, ability, isolation skills and access to information or equipment).

Walking and Cycling Grants London is a programme which supports London’s diverse communities to walk and cycle more often and more safely.

The programme aims to:

  • Increase walking and cycling in London (including new, lapsed or occasional cyclists)
  • Increase confidence in walking and cycling
  • Increase walking and cycling frequency
  • Make bike ownership more accessible
  • Introduce exercise to people who are particularly inactive via walking and cycling
  • Reduce social isolation and get people involved in their local community

Walking and cycling makes people healthier and happier and is an affordable, green and fun way to get around and explore the city and to get some exercise.

Just ask anyone you know who frequently walks or cycles!

London is fast becoming a cycling city and Cycling Grants London wants to make sure all Londoners benefit from the joys of cycling, regardless of their background or situation.

Often people don’t cycle because they lack the opportunity, information, skills, confidence or motivation to do so; or because they do not have access to a bicycle or the means to maintain it.

Cycling Grants London supports community organisations that work with those who need encouragement and support to get them cycling.

If you have an idea to inspire and support people in your community to cycle more often and cycle more safely, Cycling Grants London may be able to support you!

For #HealthyLifestyles month, we have a special episode dedicated entirely to young people, air pollution, and asthma resources across Hammersmith & Fulham.

Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions affecting adolescents, with approx 800,000 young people affected in the UK.

As an increasing health concern for young people across London, asthma education and resources are an incredibly important issue to cover.

Young H&F brings together youth organisations, businesses, local government, schools, funders, and the wider community to create opportunities for young people.

We want a happier, safer, and healthier Hammersmith & Fulham!

To continue the conversation about young people and youth services throughout H&F, we have started our very first podcast series, Change the Narrative.

We’ll be hearing about asthma awareness, resources, air pollution and local responses, as well as the work schools, health providers, youth orgs, local charities and more are doing to support young people with asthma and those concerned with air pollution across the borough!

Each month, we’ll be sharing these episodes to raise awareness around our five areas of focus:

  • mental health,
  • education,
  • healthy lifestyles,
  • youth justice,
  • employability.

We will be featuring guests from across our network:

  • young people,
  • youth workers,
  • councilors…
  • people who care about our Hammersmith & Fulham community.

Tune in to Change the Narrative, and find out how we’re all working together and how you can get involved!

Do you work with asylum seekers or refugees who may be lonely living in London?

We offer a befriending service to adult refugees who are socially isolated, spend too much time alone and don’t have enough to do.

We connect them to our volunteer befrienders – all screened and checked Londoners with a passion for the city and goodwill towards refugees.

The idea is a ‘friend’ who can help them participate and experience a more positive side of the city.

They commit to meet once or twice a fortnight over 3 months but many (80%) become firm friends.

Our criteria is: 18+, asylum seeker or refugee, lonely, speak reasonable English, stable (mental health/housing), social and curious, keen to practice their English and experience more of London.  They must also live within the M25 as HostNation only operates in Greater London.

If you know someone who fits this please tell them about us. This takes about 10 minutes with a secure connection to fill out the web referral questionnaire and consent to us holding personal data which ideally needs to be done together with the personal being referred, so they fully understand what is being offered and can tell us a bit about themselves and their interests.

We have over 100 unmatched befrienders across London’s boroughs waiting for your referral!
