You’ll discover how we use bones to move around and then consider how you might engineer these different features by making and taking home a model skeleton.

Physics doesn’t have to be hard…..make some spooky lights with our soft squishy circuits!
You will explore the amazing conductive powers of play dough and learn about electrical current. By using different types of dough, you will be able to make and take an amazing 3D model that can light up and conduct electricity. Aimed at children aged 5 – 11 years old, this family activity is open to residents living in the north of LBHF and North Kensington.

Could you be the Opening Doors Volunteer Coordinator for the next two years?
Are you looking for a change and a challenge working with volunteers to deliver sporting and arts’ activities for people with learning disabilities?
Opening Doors is Yarrow’s volunteer project funded by City Bridge Trust, supporting people with learning disabilities to access art, sport and cultural activities in London by matching them with volunteers with shared interests.
The project has been running for three years and has just been awarded a grant to continue for a further two years. Last year Opening Doors delivered a staggering 391 activities for people with learning disabilities. The range of activities was enormous, everything from rock climbing to supper clubs, film making to theatre trips, badminton to rugby!
Opening Doors is all about making sure that people with learning disabilities take a full and active part in their community and try lots of new and exciting activities. It’s about empowering people with learning disabilities, increasing confidence, widening social networks improving wellbeing. The project is open to people with learning disabilities across London, not just Yarrow people, so Opening Doors’ potential to expand is huge.
The new 2-year funding also provides for an Opening Doors website to help us reach our target of providing 400 opportunities and activities this year for people with learning disabilities.
It will be an exciting, challenging and very busy two years. It will also be great fun!

Do you have an idea for a product or service that will change lives?
Engineers, designers, developers, innovators, entrepreneurs, or anyone with a good idea – we want to hear from you.
Your idea could be a simple product that makes an everyday task easier for a person living with dementia.
You may have an innovative idea for a new service or way of working for care home staff.
To bring your idea to life, our programme offers a 12 month partnership including:
– bespoke business support and investment up to a value of £100,000
– an expert innovation buddy from Alzheimer’s Society to develop their idea during a 12-month partnership.
Who can apply?
By backing passionate people with innovative ideas, we’ll accelerate the development of new products and services with the potential to benefit thousands of people.
We are looking for applications from teams or individuals at any stage of the product development journey, from a great idea that needs testing through to proven products that need a push to maximise their reach.
Our Accelerator Programme will be accepting applications from 8 October 2019.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Workshops Information
Mental health is just as important to our overall wellbeing as physical health, in some cases more so, yet we tend to pay far less attention to it. The mental health of young people is particularly important. Half of all long-term mental illness in adulthood starts by 15 and three quarters by 18.
Youth workers and coaches can do a great deal to prevent this, without being experts. We train to give physical first aid without hesitation – so why not mental first aid too?
Local authorities up and down the country see mental health as their top priority. They know that ignoring the problem is unaffordable because of the impact on the economy: young people with mental health problems find it harder to get or stay in work, they are more likely to get into legal trouble and will need more attention from their GP or hospital. Interventions, such as Mental Health First Aid, are both evidence-based and cost-effective.
Training your volunteers and coaches is money well spent and will allow your organisation to make a vital contribution to the health of the local population.
What Is It About?
Learners will explore the most common mental health conditions experienced by young people and discover what youth and sport workers can do to prevent and/or intervene when needed. The ‘Lite’ version provides a taster of the content for the ‘Full’ course. Learners on the full course cover topics such as child and adolescent development, bullying and cyber bullying, substance misuse and protective factors.
