AoD has moved offices – just one mile but a whole world away. We have a newly refurbished office on Lillie Road. We have improved access, better transport connections and chickens as neighbours!

Our new address is Action on Disability, c/o Normand Croft School, Lillie Road, London SW6 7SR and our new phone number is 020 7381 2042. The move didn’t go quite as smoothly as we’d hoped so please bear with us if we are a bit slow to respond.

We are now based in a completely inclusive site – we are tenants of a primary school. We also share the building with Adult Education and an offshoot of the NHS. Our front entrance is right by a bus stop and we are wholly based on the ground floor.

We will have a formal ‘office warming’ soon and we hope many of our local colleagues will either be able to attend that or pop over the coming months.
The happy laughter (shouts and screams!) of the school children is our new background music. And when anything gets us down or frustrated, we have the school’s five chickens to talk to. They are very understanding.

Proper signage, publicity etc is all in the pipeline but please see our website and pictures below for a view of our new home.

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the community? Do you have the passion and perhaps a personal story that can make a difference in the lives of ex-offenders? Are you a good communicator with the ability to inspire determination in others, and do you have excellent inter-personal skills? We are looking for suitable volunteers to provide mentoring to the ex-offenders on our UR4Driving Project. For more information on this project, please visit www.theupperroom.org.uk/ur4driving. Any interested candidate may apply, but we are particularly interested in hearing from people who have been personally affected by crime, such as a family member of an ex-offender or people who are themselves ex-offenders.

Purpose of the Role:

To develop supportive and confidential relationship with ex-offenders, helping them to:

  • Receive a holistic support from the project – Supporting their learning and providing case management support to help them address the barriers they face to moving their lives forward.
  • Become self-aware – learn to evaluate themselves, developing awareness of their personal strengths and weaknesses, their skills, the contributions they make that are valued, their interpersonal relationships with others etc.
  • Become self-directing – choosing the directions they want to take. Develop a sense of their own purpose (ownership) – understanding their personal needs, what interests them, what they want, where they are going in life.

have shared. Learning from their mistakes. Gaining deeper insights into themselves and others and the world in general through “doing”.

This is an opportunity to gain key skills in offender management and case work principles. Successful candidates would be provided with Mentor Training. If you are interested and can spare a minimum of 2 straight hours a week in a working day please send a one page statement by email to applications@theupperroom.org.uk, giving your contact details and your suitability for the role.

In partnership with the London Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) has relaunched its Golden Ticket prize draws, giving all residents  and community groups the chance to be rewarded for their recycling efforts.

Local community groups can make a clear commitment to recycling and be in with a chance of winning £2,500 for their efforts. To be nominated for a Community Reward, your group/organisation must meet the eligibility criteria (detailed in the Terms and Conditions) and complete a form on the WRWA website in advance. Please follow this link – http://www.wrwa.gov.uk/goldenticket

Each borough will see one lucky winner receive a £500 cash prize, with eight more receiving £250. The first prize draw will take place on 16th December 2016 and a second draw on 24th March 2017. This year the resident who wins the big prize (£500) gets to decide which community group will receive £2,500 from a list provided by WRWA/LBHF.  To get on the list LBHF Community groups will need to make 2 pledges on the WRWA website (as last year) and once LBHF officers are satisfied that they have completed their pledges, they will be put on the list to be considered by the winner.

Good luck!
