Funding to Support Disadvantaged and Vulnerable Older People (England and Wales)

Local and national charities in England and Wales can apply for grants of between £500 – £15,000 for projects lasting up to three years that support vulnerable and disadvantaged people over 50. To be eligible the charity needs to have an annual income of below £500,000 per year. The funding is being made available through the Masonic Charitable Foundation Later Life small grants programme. The Foundation also offers funding on average of between £20,000 and £60,000 per year for up to three years through its large grants programme. The next closing date for small grants is the 23rd December 2020. The large grants programme is currently closed to applications and will re-open for applications between the 1st February and 5pm on the 31st March 2021. Click here

Business and Academic Partnerships: Apply for Funding (UK)

Businesses across the UK are being invited to collaborate with an academic or research organisation on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), a scheme that helps businesses and not for profit organisations to innovate and grow. Up to £40 million in total is available for part funding of KTPs that will offer businesses the opportunity to access new skills and the latest academic thinking to help them deliver a specific, strategic innovation project. KTPs can last between 12 and 36 months, depending on the project and the needs of the business. The deadline for applications to Innovate UK for this round is the 27th January 2021. Click here

Grants for Older People on Low Incomes (England & Wales)

Small grants of up to £500 are available to support vulnerable older people living on low incomes in England and Wales. Friends of the Elderly currently have four grant streams open for older people who are of/over state pension age, have savings of less than £4,000, and who do not fit the criteria for other funders: The funding streams include home essentials to help with the cost of replacing everyday items, small home repairs and mobility adaptations; digital connection to help older people get online; financial support to help with unexpected bills; and essential living costs including clothing, food, medicines and books. Applications must be made via a third-party Referral Agent such as charities, local authority and social services representatives. Applications can be made at any time, but resources are limited. Sylvia Waddilove Foundation UK

The Sylvia Waddilove Foundation UK has set up an emergency fund to help small to medium sized organisations that are struggling to manage the financial impact of COVID-19. The fund is intended to support organisations in a critical position due to loss of income or an increased demand for their services. Grants of up to £1,000 are available. Find out more.

The Peter Sowerby Foundation – Increasing Access Fund

The Peter Sowerby Foundation has announced the £1.4 million Increasing Access Fund. The fund is intended to support organisations to develop new services that respond to the Covid-19 situation, or to adapt existing services to meet local and national needs. Three categories of grants are available to organisations working within the areas of healthcare innovation, the arts, environment and community (particularly with disadvantaged young people). Grants to Cover Running Costs for Small Charities (UK)

Grants of £300 to £2,000 are available to small charities to help them to pay for with running and core costs. The funding is available to registered charities (Community Interest Companies are excluded) working in the areas of literature, arts and heritage; social welfare; environmental causes and animal welfare; education and training; and healthcare. The funding is being made available through the Marsh Christian Trust. There are no application deadlines. Examples of the support given include core costs for Compaid, a digital skills centre in Kent that supports people with disabilities and sensory impairments and Glassdoor, an organisation that offers shelter to the homeless in London. The Charities Aid Foundation

The Charities Aid Foundation has launched its Resilience Fund, with £20 million available to small/medium-sized non-profits in England. Grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 will be awarded to organisations working with ‘vulnerable and disadvantaged’ groups, such as people experiencing poverty, older people, people with disabilities, refugees. Funding can be used towards core costs, good and equipment and organisational development. Applications close on 10 November 2020. Click here

Sobus is a new Community Development Agency for Hammersmith & Fulham.  It has been created through the merger of the Community and Voluntary Sector Association Hammersmith & Fulham (CaVSA) and the Fulham Community Partnership Trust (FCPT).  Building on the strengths of both organisations, sobus aims to provide a wider range of support services for local charities, community groups, social enterprises and start up businesses.
