World Alzheimer’s Month - Banner

Globally there is thought to be poor understanding and a great deal of stigma surrounding dementia, so the work of World Alzheimer’s Month is vital and is growing and targeting the stigma and lack of understanding and knowledge surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and dementia as well as supporting those suffering with the disease. The month is an opportunity for individuals, businesses and charities to hold events and raise awareness in their communities of the effects of dementia. Participants can get campaign materials for their event from ADI, and anyone unable to arrange their own event but keen to take part, can find events run by their National Alzheimer’s Charity and participate in those. These coding course start in September.  We have decided to extend the catchment to include those living, working and studying in North Kensington, plus any individuals who live slightly outside North Kensington but are interested in the course (applications will be considered on a case by case basis).  We have also extended the deadline for applying to the course to 17th August.  Hopefully this will encourage a wider group to attend the taster session and consider applying for the course.  I would be very grateful if you could pass this information on to anyone you think might be interested.

As usual we are holding the taster sessions Monday at the ClementJames Centre at 6.30pm.

WAND UK Logo

WAND UK would like to invite you to walk with us, crossing the 7 London bridges to raise funds for WAND’s projects. WAND works with women across London, we want all women to be able to benefit from our services. We aim to empower and improve the quality of life of the women we work with. We connect our women and their families, to the community to give them a sense of place and purpose, ending the cycle of isolation, economic and social disadvantages giving them a voice in the community.  WAND supports about 600 women a year and many of those use the Emotional Wellbeing support service.  Whilst we walk across London’s bridges, we will be raising funds for WAND’s Mental and Emotional Wellbeing Project which provides women with support to help them realise their full potential.

Do you remember Operation Cup of Tea, responding to the London Riots in 2012?

In just one day, volunteers, local charities and community groups served over 1000 cups of tea to local residents and visitors whilst providing a positive space for people to drop by and for the community to come together.

In the summer of 2017 following the Grenfell Tower Fire, Operation Cup of Tea created a regular hub in Tavistock Square to provide a friendly face, local information and a heart-warming cuppa to anyone who’d like it.

We are relaunching Operation Cup of Tea starting from Friday 20th July 2018 at Tavistock Square.

The stall will provide local residents the opportunity to drop by, enjoy a free cup of tea and act as an informal space for people to talk. Information regarding local services and summer activities for families will also be on hand for organisations to distribute on the day.

Operation Cup of Tea Info

Want to get involved? Organisations and groups are invited to participate in Operation Cup of Tea, to share information with the local community on what support is on offer. We will be in Tavistock Square every Friday 10am-3pm until the end of September.

We would love to host your project! Come along to share your work with the public. To book a space contact Nadia at nadia.nail@vckc.org.uk by Wednesday 24th July 2018.
