Outside Edge Theatre Company—the UK’s only theatre company and participatory arts charity focused on addiction—is looking for an Administration and Projects Coordinator to join our team.

For almost twenty years OETC has developed, nurtured and produced new writing and performances that are related to substance misuse. We tour our productions to off-West End venues, festivals, treatment facilities and other civic spaces. OETC’s groundbreaking workshops have inspired positive change in recovering addicts. Using drama as a creative outlet, we help participants build confidence, self-esteem and the skills required to lead productive, healthy lives free from substance misuse. More information on OETC’s workshops and previous projects and productions can be found at www.edgetc.org.

The Administration and Projects Coordinator will be responsible for delivering the efficient operation of OETC’s office and coordinating the company’s programme of drama projects. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new management structure with AD / CEO Matt Steinberg to secure a sustainable and long-term future for this small, fast-paced participatory arts charity and theatre company. Attention to detail, the ability to manage your own time efficiently and be a self-starter is essential, along with a ‘can do’ attitude, a respectful and personal approach to participants and a willingness to creatively engage with new challenges.

To apply for the Administration and Projects Coordinator role, please follow this link for the complete job description and application procedure: www.edgetc.org/about-us/work-with-us/

To apply, please email a cover letter, CV and Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form to recruitment@edgetc.org by 5pm on January 11th, 2019. In your cover letter please detail why you are suitable for the role referring to the person specification set out in the Job Description located on the OETC website. A new initiative to encourage more third sector staff and volunteers, to take up sign language as an extra language and skill is now available in Hammersmith and Fulham and surrounding areas. Signs4Life are showcasing this local initiative to help staff and volunteers, communicate with their colleagues and service users. Our next community workshop is taking place at Shepherds Bush Library, Wood Lane, W12 7BF, on Tuesday 18th December 2018 between 11:00 and 13:00.

“You never know when you will come into contact with a client, a colleague or member of the public who is autistic, deaf or visually impaired. There are over 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people registered in the UK. We are working with organisations as varied as Specsavers, The British Red Cross, prisons, supermarkets, museums, schools and hospitals. Each of our workshops help you comply with the Disability Discrimination Act and Equality Acts 2010 and encourage a ‘can do’ approach to the 12 million people in the UK who have a physical, sensory or learning disability,” explains Ms Sara Phillips, Signs4Life tutor.

If you would like further information about the Signs4Life workshops in Hammersmith and Fulham and surrounding areas, please get in touch with Sara on 07964 019 764 or you can send an email to info@signs4life.org

Being an informed and active citizen is empowering and can benefit our whole society. The more people who participate in our democracy, the fairer and more equal it will be.

Knowing your rights as a citizen, and being aware of the ways you can influence decisions, is key to having the confidence to make change happen in your community. We believe that every young person should be aware of how democracy works and how they can participate in it. Everyone regardless of background, gender, race or age should have their say.

That’s why we’ve launched the Democracy Ambassadors programme with the hope of spreading this important message to tens of thousands of young people. Download our leaflet to find out more.

We will be training and supporting 1,000 Democracy Ambassadors aged 13–16* through the adults who support them to better understand our democracy and how they can influence change. These Ambassadors will then be challenged to share their learning and insight with other young people across England, creating a step change in youth participation.

The programme is being funded by the Cabinet Office until March 2019, as part of the Government’s Suffrage Centenary Fund.

As always, we would like to help and have teamed up with the university to offer an easy to participate in “Communication with Diverse Audiences” course, which is being developed by academics led by Senior Lecturer Doris Dippold.

From Mims Davies (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Sport and Civil Society)

‘It is my first Local Charities Day as Minister for Sport and Civil Society and I could not be more excited about building on the success of the last two years, where people, communities and organisations from across the UK have shown tremendous support for their local charities by getting so involved.

I urge everyone to follow our social media accounts (via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) for more information and updates about the day. We want as many local charities and the people that support them to get as involved as possible, with each and every organisation celebrating their work and why they’re supporting the day alongside the #LocalCharitiesDay hashtag.

However you are involved, I am looking forward to celebrating Local Charities Day with you in December.”
