School for Social Entrepreneurs logo and banner

Applications are now invited for the Community Business Trade Up Programme, an initiative that helps the leaders of community businesses in England by offering a learning programme and matched trading grant of up to £10,000.

The aim is to help 80 social businesses to grow their income from trading and to improve their impact and sustainability in 2019. Run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs, in partnership with Power to Change.

The learning programme runs from June 2019 to March 2020. The deadline to apply for this round is 1pm on 14th February 2019.

Fund opens to substantially reduce food waste from food businesses.

Food redistribution organisations are being invited to apply for the first part of a £15million pilot scheme to reduce food waste. In this initial round, £5 million will be awarded to charities and not for profit groups with a two-year track record of collecting surplus food from food businesses and delivering it to those who have a need.

The aim is to help to overcome the financial barriers to redistribution that some organisations experience. Grants likely to range from £40,000 to £75,000 will cover distribution and administration costs. Offered by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs

The closing date for applications is the 20th February 2019.

UK Grants – We are delighted to have awarded grants to many and various charities concerned with breast cancer.
Many of these have received multiple grants.

The Pink Ribbon Foundation has announced that it is currently accepting applications to its grant making programme.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to UK charities:

  • To relieve the needs of people who are suffering from, or have been affected by, breast cancer by providing, or assisting in the provision of, information, care or emotional, practical and financial support.
  • To advance public education in the understanding of breast cancer, its early detection and treatment, in particular but not exclusively by commissioning, or conducting, research into the causes, detection and treatment of breast cancer and by disseminating the results of such research.

Higher grants may be awarded if the trustees feel there is a special reason to do so.

Any charity working in the field of breast cancer can apply for a grant.

Applications from general cancer charities must demonstrate that the grants requested will be applied to benefit those affected by breast cancer. Where applications relate to general services, details must be given of how many (and what proportion) of the total number benefiting from the charity’s work are affected by breast cancer.

The closing date for applications is the 31st May 2019.

Carers Network’s vision is that every unpaid carer is recognised and leads a healthy, fulfilling life with control over their caring role. We have been working with carers across Central London for 25 years to provide information, advice and support, along with social events, training, activities and other services to ensure that carers are well informed, supported and healthy.

About the role
We are now looking for a Head of Fundraising and Communications to deliver our new strategy, aiming to develop significantly more voluntary income projects for the beneficiary carers, including health and wellbeing, training, befriending and outreach services with partner organisations.

Working in a small, friendly and dynamic team of 22 people the post holder will report directly to the CEO and will line manage a Marketing and Communications Officer. In this diverse and varied role, the post holder will spend the majority of their time (80%) working with prospective donors including charitable trusts, grants and corporate partners, working to an income target of £100,000.

You will also play a key part in shaping and delivering a compelling, tangible communications strategy, highlighting the vital work of Carers Network and ensuring first-class supporter journey experience, whilst delivering timely fundraising & impact reports (20%).

About you
This role would best suit a first-class fundraiser who is keen to expand their experience and knowledge across the board, confident in delivering six figure bids and line management, and a distinguished communicator.

Space to be me banner

Edith Durham will be hosting an event called ‘a space to be me’ on the 2nd of February at 2pm-5pm. The project is for women who want to share their stories, experiences, their journeys and the complexities surrounding them to a crowd who won’t judge, giving women a space to be themselves.

The Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Achievement Awards have been organised by our Youth Council and the Young Hammersmith & Fulham Foundation, with the support of local businesses and organisations.

The awards celebrate the diversity of achievement and talent of H&F’s youth.

Hammersmith and Fulham Law Centre was established in 1979 and has worked on the front line of advice needs for 38 years. They are rooted in our community, have an in-depth understanding of local needs and issues and prioritise helping those who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged. They are well connected to other advice agencies and community groups and provide second tier advice to other agencies.

H&F Law Centre has legal aid contracts in housing, immigration and asylum and provides free legal advice and representation to those who are eligible under the scheme.

They give free legal advice and support on a range of housing issues to people in Hammersmith and Fulham.

They also run the duty possession desk on Mondays at the County Court in Wandsworth and on Fridays at the County Court in Brentford.

To start off 2019 H&F Law have arranged a number of training sessions for the Hammersmith and Fulham advice sector. Overwhelmingly, the need for advice was benefits and housing and so H&F Law have targeted those as a priority. You can book on the first one via Eventbrite (below) but the rest of the links for booking will be sent out in the new year.
