H&F Civic Honours 2019 – don’t forget to nominate your local hero!

There are just three weeks until nominations close for the H&F Civic Honours 2019.

 

Nominations have been coming in from across the borough, so make sure your local hero doesn’t miss out on the chance to be recognised for the great things they do.

We are looking for nominations in 10 different categories:

  • Most dedicated volunteer
  • Acts of courage
  • Bringing people together
  • Acts of compassion
  • Contributions to art, culture and heritage
  • Sporting achievements
  • Community organiser
  • Improving our environment
  • Contributions to health and wellbeing
  • Lifetime achievement.

 

You can nominate anyone who lives, works, studies or volunteers in H&F, or a local community organisation.

Your nominations will go forward to a judging panel and the finalists in each category will be invited to a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Town Hall in King Street on Wednesday 12 June.

Hammersmith and Fulham Diabetes Education & Support Group

Know Diabetes Logo

The Group is affiliated to Diabetes UK and sponsored by Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust. It comprises Type 1s and Type 2s, both newly diagnosed and those with many years of experience, together with partners, other family members, friends and carers. Membership is drawn from Fulham, Hammersmith and the surrounding areas.

The purpose of the Group is both educational and to provide a place where you can meet other people with diabetes and share experiences. The Group meets 8 times a year. The 2019 programme is set out on the next page. There is an informal talk on a specialist subject from a wide and exciting panel of speakers with lively questions and discussion.

Breaking Barriers | Volunteers in Hammersmith

Breaking Barriers is a small organisation which supports refugees into employment and education. At the end of March, we are launching a new Delivery Centre in Hammersmith, and we are looking to recruit volunteers to provide 1:1 advice and guidance to our refugee clients in this centre. Ideal candidates for volunteers are local people who have experience working in London, and are able to share this knowledge with refugees from a range of countries. The commitment is a couple of hours each week or fortnight.

National Park City Festival: Community Activity Grants Are Open!

Applications are now open for National Park City Festival community activity grants.

The Mayor of London is working with the National Park City Foundation, other partners, and Londoners to make London the world’s first National Park City this year. We’ll be marking this moment with the National Park City Festival in July. Now we’d like you to help make it happen.

The festival runs from 20-28 July and will celebrate London’s great outdoor spaces. There’ll be fun activities from culture and health and fitness to wildlife, the environment and more. We will also encourage Londoners to discover new spaces and find fresh ways to get in touch with nature. We want to give all Londoners, community groups and businesses the opportunity to take part. With your help, we can make our city greener, healthier and wilder.

The Mayor is offering community activity grants of £200-2000 to support organisations that want to hold festival activities in their local area. We particularly want to reach out to broader networks and attract audiences who traditionally under-use outdoor space.

Applications are open now with the deadline of 5pm on Friday 15 March. All activities must take place during the National Park City Festival in July.

We would love to hear your fantastic ideas for festival activities from sing-a-long trails and wildlife-hotel building workshops, to park parkour and canal paddle boarding. Please also feel free to share with any relevant organisations who may be interested in taking part.

Triborough Palliative care review – feedback deadline 13 February

The survey for the palliative care review is still open and we’re keen to gather as much feedback as possible from people who have had an experience of these services across Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and Westminster.

Update on the review
Thank you to those who I have met already to inform this review. Since the review opened I have met with a number of groups of professionals and talked to over 40 people individually ranging from specialist level providers in both acute and community and inpatient settings, community nurses, GP’s, local authorities, CCG’s and Continuing Health Care teams, key national organisations and other experts in the field.

I have also met a number of patients at local Patient Reference Groups, Healthwatch meetings and am in the process of going into hospices to meet with patient and carer groups. More of these events and a dedicated focus group organised by the BME forum are still to come.

We would welcome any further opportunities to speak directly to patients about their experience of palliative care as part of this call to evidence. If you know of any opportunities to do so, we are keen to hear from you, please do get in contact.
