Purpose of the Role:

To develop supportive and confidential relationship with ex-offenders, helping them to:

  • Receive a holistic support from the project – Supporting their learning and providing case management support to help them address the barriers they face to moving their lives forward.
  • Become self-aware – learn to evaluate themselves, developing awareness of their personal strengths and weaknesses, their skills, the contributions they make that are valued, their interpersonal relationships with others etc.
  • Become self-directing – choosing the directions they want to take. Develop a sense of their own purpose (ownership) – understanding their personal needs, what interests them, what they want, where they are going in life.
  • Experience their own success – the reward of feedback from accomplishments in which they
    have shared. Learning from their mistakes. Gaining deeper insights into themselves and others and the world in general through “doing”.

This is an opportunity to gain key skills in offender management and case work principles. Successful candidates would be provided with Mentor Training. In partnership with the London Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) has relaunched its Golden Ticket prize draws, giving all residents  and community groups the chance to be rewarded for their recycling efforts.

Local community groups can make a clear commitment to recycling and be in with a chance of winning £2,500 for their efforts. To be nominated for a Community Reward, your group/organisation must meet the eligibility criteria (detailed in the Terms and Conditions) and complete a form on the WRWA website in advance. Each borough will see one lucky winner receive a £500 cash prize, with eight more receiving £250. The first prize draw will take place on 16th December 2016 and a second draw on 24th March 2017. Criminal Justice IDVA
The Criminal Justice IDVA for the Impact Project will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the criminal justice process. They will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support to women aged 16 and over who access the IDVA service.

As an experienced domestic violence advocate, the post holder will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with women survivors of domestic violence, of supporting women involved in criminal and civil justice systems and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision. A key responsibility of this role will be to strengthen multi agency relationships and ensure agency accountability whist maintaining good communication and working relationships at all levels.

Social Care IDVA

The Social Care domestic violence project is a partnership project between Advance, DVIP, Standing Together and Hammersmith and Fulham Social Services which aims to embed early intervention and domestic violence homicide prevention bests practice into a multi agency whole family approach response to lead to better outcomes for those involved including children. The purpose of the Social Care IDVA role is to work closely with Social Services to support women who have had Social Services intervention due to domestic violence and to work closely with the project’s DVIP male practitioner who will work with the perpetrators of abuse to enable a whole family approach.

The post holder will be co-located at Hammersmith Social Services and will help raise their awareness, identification and response to those experiencing domestic violence, the post holder will also jointly work with Social Services and DVIP on cases to support service users and improve partnership responses. The post holder will have an excellent understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women and children.

The post holder will also have an understanding of children’s social care and care proceedings.

Living Medicine – Self Care for Coughs, Colds & Allergies

With autumn now approaching, explore how resilience to infections can be improved through non-medical nutritional and herbal support. This practical session will include demonstrations, a walk in the garden, and a guide and utensils to take home.

Medical herbalist Alex Laird of Living Medicine will guide you on how to:

  • Identify, smell and taste common healing plants
  • Find out how plants’ defensive compounds promote and protect our own body functions
  • Make food and herb remedies to treat simple coughs, colds and allergies

This is the second in a five part series of workshops but can be attended as a standalone session. It is ideal for anyone interested in plants, food and health. No previous knowledge is necessary, though we’d love you to share your own experience or family remedies. Alex Laird BSc set up the first herbal clinic in hospital dermatology at Whipps Cross Hospital and also practices at The Haven breast cancer support centre in Fulham.
