It’s fast approaching a year since remote working has become the new normal. Throughout this period, reports of cyber attacks have continued to increase and the attacks themselves have become ever more sophisticated and damaging to businesses.

Remote workers have grown accustomed to this way of working, but have you done everything you can to remain protected? Extra vigilance is key to avoid becoming vulnerable to a targeted cyber attack.

Yesterday (3 March) the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak announced in the Budget that the Government is doubling the incentive payment for employers who take on new apprentices.

As an employer if you recruit an apprentice (anyone over the age of 16) you will receive a payment of £3,000 for each NEW apprentice hired. If you take on a new apprentice aged 16-18 or someone under 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan you will also receive the existing £1,000 bonus together with the new incentive totaling £4,000.

Last month the Government also announced an extension to the Traineeship programme, investing £126million to triple the number of traineeships available and each employer will receive £1,000 for each new trainee they take on to ensure young people are provided with high-quality work experience placments and supported with skills development.

We are aiming to run this service up to the end March 2021, although this is dependent to some extent on take up as we have limited resourcing.  We would particularly like to focus on supporting people in this age group from BAME communities.

The taxi service we are using is Uber and as we have one code for each Borough, we will book rides on behalf of people.  The full cost of the travel to and from the vaccination centre will be covered.

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) are campaigning to help charity supporters give more, and to better support the fantastic charities in the UK to meet the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis.

The sector is currently facing one of the biggest financial crises yet. This has resulted in huge falls in income, increased levels of demand for services. Therefore, needing to do more to respond to Covid-19 and care for the most at-risk and marginalised individuals and communities has created a perfect storm.

CAF are part of a coalition of charities, campaigning for a two year Gift Aid Emergency Relief package. The campaign proposes a 5% increase of Gift Aid from 20% to 25% and that the Small Donation scheme, which makes claiming gift aid easier for small charities, be extended to many more. This change could result in an additional £450m to help the sector survive the crisis and recover.
