Race on the Agenda - Banner

ROTA, together with Black, Asian and Minority, Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) community organisations in West London and HEAR Network is launching a mental health equality campaign in the run up to the local elections.

In the open letter we call on all candidates in the local elections to commit to the six action points that have been co-authored by Experts by Experience, user-led Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) and BAMER organisations, to improve the design, commissioning and delivery of mental health services for BAMER communities and, therefore, reduce mental health inequality.

Sign the letter HERE.

We ask you to support our campaign by:

  1. Sharing the open letter with your network
  2. Signing up to the open letter electronically
  3. Emailing or mailing the open letter to local candidates in your borough
  4. Using Social Media to hold local parties, local candidates, local authorities, CCG’s and other mental health stakeholders to account, using the following hash tags: #MHEquality #MentalHealth4All #HardlyHardToReach

ROTA will keep you up to date on the outcome of the campaign.

Mama Biashara is a grassroots African charity. We are small. We understand small and the challenges of being a small organisation. Like fundraising. Regular fundraising or one off fundraising is a nightmare when you are tiny. Not any more. Mama Biashara is offering you a space in the shop inside West 12 Shopping Centre.

A space to craftwork or anything else that speaks of your community or a place to offer something else to raise funds – hennawork or braiding for example. You can use the space to raise awareness as well as funds and to offer advice if that is what you do.

The space is free. As long as all the money raised goes to the work of your group. You do not need to be a registered charity. Just a community group helping others. You do not even need to speak English – we can help with that.

We have a good customer base. We are already a community shop. Now we want to open up to many more communities.

A Hand Up not a Hand Out is Mama Biashara’s motto. That is what we are offering.

Protection Approaches is delighted to invite you to join us at community workshop and discussion at the Bush Theatre. This event will bring together community members from different backgrounds, ages, and professions to explore ideas of how we can bridge community divides.

During our project, Prejudice and Us, we worked with young people from Shepherds Bush, White City and Hammersmith to understand their experiences of prejudice. We discovered that prejudice is an ever present problem affecting the lives of the young people in a variety of ways and that many young people feel they live in an increasingly divided community. You can view a full report of our findings here.

We hope that this workshop and discussion will be an opportunity to work together to think of ways we can bridge those divides and make our community a better place for all.

The event will end with a buffet lunch and a chance to continue discussions informally
