Shepherd's Bush Families Project

Shepherds Bush Families Project & Children’s Centre is now in its 30th year and supports Families who are homeless and those living under acute housing stress. We are looking to increase the number of trustees currently on our board. Are you energetic, committed and passionate about helping children, young people and their families improve their outcomes! Are you flexible and willing to think ‘out of the box’ if so we need you!

This is a voluntary role and we need someone with a variety of skills, knowledge and experience and a commitment to support the development of our important work with families and children and young people in the borough.

The Board of Trustees’ are the accountable body for Shepherds Bush Families Project & Children’s Centre.  The Board is currently made up of trustees who have an interest in the work of the organisation and specifically family homelessness.  Supported by the projects CEO, the Board meets 4-6 weekly to review strategy and performance, Trustees may also be meet in between to review progress on specific activities through formal and ad-hoc subcommittee meetings.

Trustees are pivotal in supporting the organisation at a strategic and governance level. Whilst this may seem like a daunting role it can in fact be very rewarding and offers Individuals the opportunity to learn more about the voluntary/charity sector, acquire skills and knowledge that may be used for their personal CV’s and allows individuals to share their own knowledge and expertise with others.

We welcome applications from a range of backgrounds and cultures.

This is a rewarding and important project. If you are interested in volunteering as member of the Board of Trustees and you would like further information, please contact us on 020 8749 2371 or email tinamayers@sbfp.org .

The Reader is an organisation passionate about the power of reading together and works to build community and individual well-being through our weekly Shared Reading groups.  Our staff and volunteers are trained to pick and read aloud great literature which allows us to feel safe to open up and to share with one another personal meanings and experiences. We believe that reading great literature together gives us insight on what it means to be human, improving our personal well-being and helping us connect with one another.

If you are interested in attending or hosting one of our groups, please contact Erin at erincarlstrom@thereader.org.uk.  You can also check out our website at www.thereader.org.uk.

Mama Biashara is a grassroots African charity. We are small. We understand small and the challenges of being a small organisation. Like fundraising. Regular fundraising or one off fundraising is a nightmare when you are tiny. Not any more. Mama Biashara is offering you a space in the shop inside West 12 Shopping Centre.

A space to craftwork or anything else that speaks of your community or a place to offer something else to raise funds – hennawork or braiding for example. You can use the space to raise awareness as well as funds and to offer advice if that is what you do.

The space is free. As long as all the money raised goes to the work of your group. You do not need to be a registered charity. Just a community group helping others. You do not even need to speak English – we can help with that.

We have a good customer base. We are already a community shop. Now we want to open up to many more communities.

A Hand Up not a Hand Out is Mama Biashara’s motto. That is what we are offering.
