Female* Domestic Violence key worker
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £23,116 – £25,033 per annum inc. London Weighting
Working hours: 35 hours per week with some on-call cover required
Work Location: Based at ADVANCE Hammersmith office and community locations
The Domestic Violence Worker will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process. They will work within the team to make proactive contact attempts with high volumes of new referrals and once this contact is established complete initial needs and risk assessments. They shall provide initial advice and crisis safety planning before the case is allocated to an IDVA/caseworker or referred to the appropriate partner agency for ongoing support. They will provide this high quality support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women from aged 13, focusing on working with those aged 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. They will advise women on criminal justice, civil remedies, housing and related matters. They will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women from aged 13, focusing on working with those aged 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. They hold a caseload of standard and medium risk clients as well as clients going through the criminal justice system. They will advise women on criminal justice and civil remedies and related matters, support women to attend court where necessary, and coordinate the provision of multi-agency support. Part of the role will to be to establish positive, proactive and innovative working relationships with services providing services to clients and partner agencies within the Angelou Partnership.

The post holder will work across the three boroughs under the guidance of the team leaders and project manager.
The post holder will have an excellent understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women and children and of best practice within the domestic abuse sector. As an experienced domestic violence advocate who has worked with a high volume of clients who have complex and multiple needs, the post holder will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic violence, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.

The Upper Room is a registered charity with a Christian ethos and has been helping socially and economically disadvantaged people improve their lives and become productive members of society for over 25 years. We currently support homeless people, ex-offenders, and destitute migrants among others. We are looking for a capable Administrator to join our team as we embark on a new phase in our organisational journey.

The post holder will provide central administrative, communications and events support to the team, dealing empathically with service-users and communicating professionally with stakeholders. A confident self-starter, to excel in this role you will need strong customer service skills, a good eye for detail and an ability to use various IT systems/software.

Val works the toilets in Pleasure, a hedonistic gay club in the north of England. For years, she has been a shoulder to cry on and a confidante – much loved but viewed as an enigma. Why is she still there? Why does she never leave? When a young man, both beautiful and unpredictable, arrives from the city and leaves a gift for Val – performed in this premiere production by the well-known British soprano Lesley Garrett – it marks the start of a passionate and violent night.

Born in Liverpool in 1988, composer Mark Simpson won BBC Young Musician of the Year as a clarinettist in 2006 and also, that same year, received the accolade of BBC Young Composer of the Year – the only individual to have won both competitions. In 2010 he won the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Award, and he has a growing catalogue of works to his credit, including his orchestral scores A Mirror Fragment and Threads (both 2008) as well as sparks (2012), which have all been well received. Most recently his oratorio The Immortal was performed to acclaim at the Manchester International Festival. Here he turns to opera for the first time; his librettist is long-time collaborator Melanie Challenger, whose poetry and prose have been widely admired.

HUDC’s International Festival

HUDC’s International Festival on Saturday 4th June 2016,

 4pm to 9pm

Harrow Council, Civic Centre, Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2XY

 

 

Harrow United Deaf Club will be hosting an international festival to bring people together to celebrate their cultures and the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 4, from 4pm to 9pm at Member’s Lounge, Committee Rooms and the Council Chambers of Harrow Council Civic Centre in Station Road.

The Mayor of Harrow will open the programme, which includes a range of information and cultural stalls, guest speakers on international themes, variety of performances and cuisines from around the world.

Asif Iqbal, president of Harrow United Deaf Club, said: “We wish to congratulate the Queen on her 90th birthday. She is a great inspiration to us all in UK and worldwide with so much achievements in her reign.”

Harrow College will be providing a range of hair and beauty session including make-up, nail-painting for people who wish to be pampered.

Karan of KSPARK entertainment will be running a Bollywood masterclass and dance workshop for guests to have fun throughout the afternoon.

Hasnian Somji of Caketastic will make a special birthday cake for the Queen.

Evening cultural performances include Bollywood dance from KSPARK entertainment, Bengali dancers, Flamenco dancers and dance performance from Harrow Tamil School Association.

Speakers will talk on teamwork, ,black history, celebrating Chinese New Year, sharing the pride (LGBT), sharing Asian woman experience, Muslim men embracing Islam and meeting communities around the world.

Sylvia Simmonds, one of the guest speakers for the event, said: “Awesome event. It is rare and unique opportunity to gather with both deaf and hearing to celebrate this event. Come and join with us to celebrate our identities in many ways – most of all – enjoy and treasure our values.”

Entry is free for all and guests are encouraged to wear cultural dress or international costumes of their choice.

Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy Workshop Invitation

The Hammersmith and Fulham Health and Wellbeing Board is currently developing its Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2016-2021

 

Through this strategy, and the hard work which will follow, the Health and Wellbeing Board aims to drive forward even closer working between health, social care, the voluntary sector and other partners, improve people’s experience of health and care services and ensure the financial sustainability of the local system into the future.

This process provides an opportunity for all partners across Hammersmith & Fulham to agree collectively how we will work together to improve our resident’s health and wellbeing over the next five years and transform people’s experience of health and social care services.

To inform the development of our strategy, we are hosting a workshop with local stakeholders to discuss collective ambitions for the borough and how we will transform health and care services locally over the next five years

The workshop is an opportunity to hear from senior directors, managers and commissioners and feed your views and comments into the strategy development process.

Since April 2014, nearly all employers that pay Class 1 National Insurance contributions on their employees’ and directors’ earnings have been entitled to an Employment Allowance. The benefit of the Employment Allowance can cause a reduction of up to £2,000 a year off an employers National Insurance bill.

Extension of Shared Parental Leave and Pay to grandparents

In October 2015, in acknowledging the role played by grandparents in the support and provision of childcare to working families, the Chancellor announced that shared parental leave and pay will be extended to working grandparents. The fine detail of the proposal is still being worked out but the consultation on how Shared Parental Leave and Pay will be extended to working grandparents is expected to be published in May 2016 as announced in the Chancellors most recent Budget.

The consultation will also cover ways of streamlining the Shared Parental Leave and Pay system, including eligibility requirements and notification systems.

When is an employer vicariously liable for the actions of its employees?

In two recent cases, the Supreme Court has considered the test for vicarious liability in employment and employment-like relationships to determine when an employer is liable for the acts of its employees.

In Mohamud v WM Morrison Supermarkets plc, a customer had been subjected to a serious assault and racial abuse by the employee in his working hours and on company premises. The customer brought a claim in the County Court against Morrison’s which they contested, arguing that their employee was not acting on their behalf when the customer was assaulted. However, the Supreme Court disagreed.
