More than one in three children and young people are exposed to at least one potentially traumatic event by age 18.*

Trauma-informed approaches enable services to recognise the presence of trauma and acknowledge its widespread impact, whilst seeking to avoid re-traumatisation.

Attend Westminster Insight’s one-day interactive online workshop to learn how to implement a successful trauma-informed approach for children and young people to reduce the negative impact of childhood adversities and support child and adult mental health outcomes.

This practical course will cover what trauma-informed care looks like and why it is important? Through interactive sessions understand how you can effectively respond to those suffering from trauma. Attend this course to learn how to identify the symptoms of trauma and provide appropriate support. Gain skills to communicate with young people who are affected by trauma and tailor interventions to meet their individual needs.

Our expert trainer, Dr Kirsty Hughes, Clinical Director for Beyond Psychology, will share best practice to help you to advance your approach to trauma-informed care. Take part in interactive sessions that will enable you to relate and resonate with people who have experienced trauma.

The Rise Up Programme is a free training initiative designed for individuals working with young people in both paid and voluntary capacities. This includes faith leaders, sports coaches, teaching assistants, youth workers, and community leaders to name a few. Funded by the VRU, this programme aims to provide up-to-date and relevant training to practitioners, enhancing their confidence and skills in youth work and providing them the tools to best support the young people they work with.

The programme offers two versions, both of which allow practitioners to join a growing network of Youth Practitioners who connect through themed networks and WhatsApp Communities.

You will find a guide outlining the differences between the two versions of the programme here.

Applications are now open and remain open on a rolling basis until all programmes are full.

To apply, please visit our website: London Youth Rise Up.

Grassroots organisations based in the UK can apply for funding from the Windrush Justice Programme to support their advocacy efforts for those seeking to access the Windrush Compensation Scheme. The programme, made available through Action for Race Equality, is offering small grants of £22,000 (over two years) to help organisations cover the costs of caseworkers, administrative expenses, venue fees, and staffing costs. The programme aims to support those affected by the scandal, helping them navigate the complex process of applying for compensation and securing their legal status. Currently there is no application closing date given. However, the grant must be spent by 31st December 2025. Windrush Justice Programme (UK)

We recently published the findings of research we commissioned to investigate the public’s experience and expectations of charitable fundraising. The aim of this research, from strategic insight agency Opinium, was to help build on our understanding in this area to inform our regulation and to add to our evidence base to help promote best practice to fundraisers. You can read the full report on our website which shares valuable insights.

Additionally, with the our code review now entering its final stages, our Policy Manager Conor Gibson has written a blog to provide an update on the review process so far, the response to the public consultation and what the next phase in the process looks like which you can read on our website.

UK charities and social enterprises supporting children and young people, disadvantaged families, prisoners, and ex-offenders can apply for funding to help cover their core costs. Small grants of up to £3,000 and large grants of over £3,000 are available. However, only a few large grants are awarded. The funding will support small-scale, local initiatives that make good use of volunteers, encourage past and current users to participate, and ensure that funds awarded will promote community cohesion and the development of skills that will change the outlook and outcomes for their users. Preference is given to small to medium-sized charities where small grants can have more impact. The funding is being made available through the Woodward Charitable Trust which will accept applications until 12pm on the 26th July 2024. Funding to Support Core Costs of Small Charities (UK)

Grants are now available to support children and young people in the UK experiencing a crisis or emergency.  The grants which are made available through the BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials programme support families with children up to the age of 17 who are living with financial, health and social difficulties by providing items that meet children’s most basic needs, such as kitchen appliances, furniture, baby equipment, beds, clothing, and other items and services that are critical to children’s wellbeing. Applications must come through a registered referral agency supporting the family or young person. The programme is delivered by Family Fund Business Services, and applications can be made at any time. Support for Children Living in Severe Poverty (UK)
