Capacity Building?
A term frequently used within the sector but never really explained. What is it?
Capacity building is essentially about developing your organisation to a point where it is and seen to be successful, and will continue to succeed. Sometimes words such as sustainability or terms such as continuous development and organisational development creep in, but they are all part of same thing.
To make things even more confusing capacity building is a very broad subject and includes a myriad of different things from having the right organisational structure, to policy and management, finance, communications and marketing and planning and flexibility…. and so on.
So, what we have done for you is break this down in to 5 Stages.
There is a simple rule
Whilst there might be elements from all stages to you fulfil, you will only be at the stage when you meet the criteria for that stage and the earlier stages in full. E.g. you cannot be at stage four unless you fulfil stages 1, 2 and 3.
